Having left Hackney Downs I did a stint at Victoria Park Lido as a lifeguard before setting off to the Hamble Air Training College, the joint college for BEA and BOAC.  Unfortunately, I was rather naughty and was chopped after a year of an eighteen month course. I dabbled in Civil Engineering Materials Testing Consulting before embarking on a career as a Work Study Officer – Time and Motion to the uninformed. This lead me to becoming the Head of Business Consulting at British Airways where I worked for a total of 27 years.  My last job was working to the Chairman as the Head of Community Relations where I was nice to people and gave away loads of dosh and flight tickets. So if you were ever on a British Airways flight and gave up some of your loose change you can blame me. During my time at British Airways I joined the 10 (V) Battalion The Parachute Regiment (a Territorial Battalion) and rose to the exalted Rank of Substantive Major. Since leaving British Airways in 2000 I set up my own Consultancy Company and failed to turn around several airlines but had a lot of fun trying. However, I was instrumental in turning around the Royal British Legion and putting in place a sustainable strategy for The Royal Geographical Society and continue to assist to the present. I also dabbled in lecturing at City University, Cranfield and the Arab Air Carriers Organisation.

I met my future wife when I was 13 and she 11 at a diving club. We have been married over 45 years and have one son who is also married with two daughters.  This year my wife Jenny was awarded an MBE as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for services to Synchronised Swimming.  She received the award a month ago from the Queen at Windsor Castle.
